Amphora

The 14th century

Clay, circle. Height 35.2 cm.

Found at the Tsarevskoye settlement near the village of Tsarev, Leninsky rayon. Excavations by Yuri Anatolyevich Zeleneev, 1997.

The red clay amphora-shaped jug with a slender body, narrow neck and two handles. The body is decorated with circular mortise lines. Ceramic production was well developed in the Golden Horde cities. The largest number of dishes was made from red clay. These include large khums for storing grain, various jugs, bowls, plates, as well as amphorae for storing and transporting wine.
