Handles of the bowl in the form of a wolf

The 1st century - the first half of the second century C.E. (common era)

Silver. Casting.

Handles' length: 8.8 cm; 9.0 cm

Found near the village of Verbovsky, Kalachevsky Rayon.

The handles of the vessel are in the shape of lean wolves with widely spaced paws. The handles were attached to a silver vessel. Judging by the method and place of attachment, they were attached to the vessel later.

Animalistic images on nomadic artefacts often had a sacred character. A person who possessed an object in such animal style would be attributed the best characteristics of the depicted animal.
