Incense burner

Catacomb culture

Clay, modeling. Height 11.5 cm, corolla diameter 17 cm

Found near the village of Sidor Mikhailovskiy.

Excavations by Valentin Pavlovich Shilov, 1972.

The incense burner is in the form of a bowl, decorated along the rim and body with an imprint of a serrated stamp having an additional compartment on a cross-shaped leg.

Studying the residue in incense burners, scientists made a conclusion that the ancients used some medicinal strong-smelling herbs as components of smoking mixtures. For example: sage, wormwood, yarrow.
