Axe

Pokrovskaya culture

Diorite, polishing. Length 16 cm.

Accidental find near the Khlebny khutor, Ilovlinsky rayon, before 1940.

The boat-shaped axe with a drilled eye has a slightly bent back mushroom-shaped spine, smoothly turning into the back of the blade. The sides of the axe are decorated with two parallel ridges. Axes of this type in the Bronze Age burials are symbols of power and chiefdom. Some scientists see them as an abstract image of a mythical animal.
